On my Firebird I cut a hole in the firewall an then made a shallow box to install in the hole about 1" deep, the HEI now has room and I didn't need the BFH.
I think my Firebird has about 6 years of dust on it, but heres a picture of the fender flared flyer.

Yeah thats the small cap.

The big one is the size of a HEI or bigger.

I really didn't want to cut the firewall.I will mini tub it but for some reason the firewall I like intact.

Post update

I had some time this morning to get some work done. I installed the merge to the t-6 flange and fabbed up the pipes to the bottom of the car. This went pretty well and Im happy! Looks like this damn thing just might work. The way I ran the pipes it looks like I get to keep the sway bar and the lower radiator hose dosent have to be modified. I have tacked everything together for now my dad's buddy has a tig welder and is going to weld it up for me. Here are some pictures....

I like the mrge very nice piece was it an oem merge from another car cut off?

One thing I should mention. the nipple on the heater hose may be an issue in the future. I have had mine cut on the flare for the hose. It has happened to me several times. I even plugged it so if it tears it won't leak badly. becareful if you pulg it though they crack easy on the seam. found that out the hard way.DOH!

Next time its off I am going to weld it up or cut it of flush and the plug it.

Other wise looks great. No reason it should work.

Not sure where/what the boost threshold/lag will be with that turbo, but it will be nice to finally find out for sure.

Here is the merge pipe I used..http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...=+115&y=3&x=37
I just cut it to fit, worked out good. Thanks for the tip on the heater hose nipple but I filled the stem and nipple with jb weld and reinstalled the cap lol.

I was concerned with the 1.32 ar of the s400 so researched the heck out of it on TM. what I found was the guys with sbc's 355/383 cid. were spooling and building good boost by 3000rpm's I figure a 462 should spool it by 2500?? guess I'll find out! lol. Dave at Majestic strongly recomended the 1.32 over the 1.10, he told me the 1.32 should do the job.

I am very happy with the ground clearence and the room I have for the suspension. I thought for sure I would have to ditch the sway bar!

How smooth is the transition in the Y collector?

If its a nice trasition it could be used to run two of those cheesey air to water intercoolers they have on Ebay. They are too small even though they say 1000 Hp etc but if you ran two they would be fine I would think.

I have heard of guys running those intercoolers and having big pressure drops across the cooler.
I have a spearco Air to Air I think I am going to change direction of flow on(water runs through where boost air used to go and boost air runs through where cooling air used to go) and run this year as an air to Icewater with a cooler and a Bilge pump.
This is a 100% efficiency no loss intercooler if done properly and has enough cooling area.

We run one on the capri and it works great.
It made a huge difference

The merge is probably not the most efficent piece, I have a split t-6 flange and the merge follows the outside of the inlet within a 1/4 in? kinda tough to explain. I think it should work for a street car and I plan on mounting the wastegate right out of the top of the merge. I have been looking at e-bay air to air intercoolers but I still have not made up my mind yet

Here are pictures of my capri.

If you were to flip the merge would it be a smooth flow like 1 into 2 into a cooler then from 2 back to 1. Do they make them 4 inch to two 3 inch?

Nice capri I am uploading some pics of chris' capri My hard drive went down recently and I lost all my pics off the laptop.

heres a link to chris' capri.
It ran really bad down there at the pump gas drags, but you can see the ET's
The link under it is the video
The turbo(88MM0 that was on that car in thh video is on my car now.

He upgraded to a 106MM witha ice water to air and mini tibbed the car since then. It went 8.64 at160 skating and he lifted three times on the datalogger at the end of the year when he got it back together. should go 7'S when sorted out!

I dont think they make that style of merge larger than 3in. I wish they made a single 4in. into 2- 3in. outlet, I could use that to split my downpipe into stock looking dual exhaust pipes! I might do that but it will have to be home made.

Your buddy has a nice looking capri!! 8.64 dont sound to shabby! I think mine might do a mid 10 ?? its just a fun street car that alot of local chebby guys hate!

look up flowmasters scavenger line. they have lots of options. i just bought one with a 2 2.5 inlets and one 3.5 outlet. they also have a dual 3.5 inlet to a 5" outlet which is what im going to look into for splitting into my duals as well. they might have a 4" unit

Isn't your turbo a 5 inch exhaust outlet?

Imagine if you were running 8.60's
that car is for sale for $35K
He has $100k in reciepts for the car.

He is taking a huge loss but thats how race cars are.

I have a 5 inch into dual threes off my turbo.

if you look under the car it looks like regular duals you can hardly tell my car is a turbo if you don't look too close through the grill.

I have a flat 350 hood on it so its super stealth. everything is under the stock type hood. surprises people when it goes 9's.

My turbo outlet is 5in. I plan on reducing it to 4in. before the turndown. 4 will be tight but 5in. would really suck. lol. I dont think I would have the room!

not sure if that was aimed at me but that 2X2.5 into one 3.5 was for my merge pipe intot he turbo. planned on using the 2X3.5 into 5" for routing back into my dual 3". actually just got it yesterday and is VERY smooth transition

I would try and go 5 unch as far as you can. as the exhaust gasses cool they will need less space and you can reduce with less issue. theres a reason the outlet is 5 inch though. it is sized correctly for the turbo so its important to keep it as close to that as possible.

remember back pressure makes the turbo harder to turn.

The Ideal exhaust in a N/A is a terminator box exhaust system.

It has big boxes outside the headers that expand the gasses and allow them to cool before running back to the mufflers.

In a turbo exhaust it eeven more important than N/A
The 4 inch will work but the biger the better.
just something to think about when setting it up.
