Default springs from a 1970 into a 1975?

im looking for some front lowered springs and the only ones i can find over here are for a 1970 model, also how much are decent brand springs worth in america? Just incase i need to import some, also will i have any drama's with 265 tyres on the front with scrubing?

You can buy a good set of springs for about $60.00. There is a spring chart in the suspension forum. You need to remove the springs from the car first and measure them.

Your tire rubbing problems are usually solved with new springs and good shocks. What's the complete tire size?

The springs could be anything, without measuring them, you won't know the spring rate or even if they are a performance spring. You could buy WS6 springs and you would know you are starting out with a performance spring.

I guess I'm going to have to pull my Hotchkis springs out to get a measurement for you guys wanting to lower your cars. There's been a lot of people asking this same question.

ok there is a company over hear seeling lowered springs for a 1970 firebird so i was wondering if they would fit, i dont have scrubbing issue's atm but was wondering if i went lower, would it result in scrubbig issue's? The spring is an aftermarket pair that i would b buying and is a performance spring, i have used their springs before in our race car(corners) and they havent let us down yet! handles great! But the car is a lot smaller than the firebird is and ALOT lighter hehe still a GM car, you guys heard of holden?
I have no idea on what the measurement would be but i guess i could give em a call and they should be able to tell me
The complete tyre size is : 265/50/R15
Thanks
Brendan

I didn't realize you were not from the USA at first. If they sell Moog or TRW there, the part number system should be the same.

It's basicly the same thing. There might be some letters in front of the TRW part number. If you look on the spring chart, it will have wire diamter, inner diameter and free height along with the spring rate. The most important things to see if the spring will work is the inner diameter, it has to match up to the springs on your car or it won't fit in the spring pocket. The larger the wire diameter, the higher the spring rate. A shorter spring with the same wire diameter as a taller spring will have a higher spring rate because the shorter spring is harder to compress.

The 1970 springs should work in a 1975.

Default QUICKOR suspension

They are located in USA and sell an assortment of springs (inluding lowereing), stabilizer bars and suspension bushings for F body cars as well as many others.
They have been in business for many years and have good tech support.
Last web address I have for them is http://www.quickor.com
Another way to make the car lower in the front and actually help lower the CG is to replace the body to frame mount bushings or biscuits with thinner solid aluminum mounts. Front core support and federwells will have to be modified for wheel clearance and proper fender to body alignment This will eliminate flexing between the unibody and front sub frame. You can also raise the nounting hole on the front spring eye for the rear leafs and this will lower the rear of the car too as well as inprove handling.
Very important for drag cars and autocrossing.

What? You lost me there. There's barely enough room to fit it as it is. How do you raise it?

Default Front spring eye relocation.

Mike,
This is a Herb Adams VSE trick that he came up with in the 70's.
His pamphlet with all the F body suspension mods is out of print as far as I know.
I have a copy and can scan / email the pages that detail the suspension mods.
Lots of stuff in the book you can do in your shop at home without buying a lot of high zoot parts.
You have to remove the front spring eye mounts/ perches and relieve (cut out) the tops of them so the spring eye can move up in the perch. The hole for the bolt is redrilled 3/4" to 1" above it's old location. You have to do both of them exactly the same.
This improves Anti Dive charachteristics under braking and also Anti Squat under acceleration.
Also after doing any of this stuff you want to recheck your drive line and pinion angles so that they are where you want them to be.

Ahhh! I see now. Cutting out the top would give you that little extra. That's a good idea. :ax

I did the same on my bird during high school. I had to get rid of my mufflers though. which was fine by me, I just ran headers. I think pics would give people a better idea.

Mine has been lower 1.5" in the rear with Hotchkis springs, but I'd like to drop it at least another 1/2 inch. This might be a good thing for me to try. Of course, I'd take pics of the whole procedure.

I'd also like to drop it at least 1" in the front, but not sure how much to cut of the front coils. They are a 2" drop already.
