Default 400 2 barrel in a 67 GTO?

I just found what looks like a 67 gto.Its pretty rusty but could be restored. It has a XM code 400 in it.Could this be the original engine?

Don't have the code book in front of me, I'm sure someone will confirm the engines origins, but yes, they did offer a 2 barrel 400 in 67 for the GTO. Something to satisfy the people who wanted the look but not the performance. Think it was rated around 265 HP if memory is right.

Yes, they can answer your question over the phone, after you give them a credit card number. They will then mail you the rest of the info. May cost you the fee but save you some cash and keep you from paying for a clone. They will need the VIN and your CC number. You could also check casting numbers by distributor to at least tell you if it was a 67 engine, head casting numbers, but even then the only sure way to verify is PHS.

I just checked Wallace racings site and it does list an XM code 400 in 67 rated at 255 HP. Doesn't say body style used in.

the vin tag on the car must start with a 242 to be a real GTO

The 1967,'68 and '69 GTO's could each have been ordered with the optional 2-bbl Economy Engine!

The 305 in the corvette was for California only. All others got the 350, the only ones that got the 305 were for the only state that has good weather but really hates cars even though they help the state better then any other industry.
