Default Rack conversions! X-body/F-body

I was wondering if anyone on the site has installed a Mustang II rack on their X-body or 1st gen F-body? If they did, did they use a kit or piece together their own? I have a Rack out of an 88 Mustang and was thinking about building a conversion on my own and am hoping someone here on the board has done this on a budget and can direct me as far as tie rod ends, steering coupling, and most of all how to mount the dang thing!

Thanks
David

Not a whole lot of action on that board sometimes. Probably would be best to do a search. I would just go with a kit, I dont think the Mustang rack is long enough. May be able to find a rack from some other car that would be closer to the correct length.

If the rack you have will even work...width wise......then you will have to fabricate brackets to mount it to your crossmember, or have brackets fabricated. I have no idea which tie rod ends you would have to use.
I think that for the money the Unisteer manual rack kit would be the best route. It comes with mounting brackets, tie rod ends and is a simple bolt in deal.
Here is a link to the Unisteer website........you can get it cheaper through Summit Racing though..........$469.95.

If you have pics I would appreciate them! Right now I think I will start off using stock front steering. I have a second front subframe so I can play with it later once the car is on the road.

I'll take some and put the link up for my photobucket. The whole subframe crossmember needs to be section'd for the steering shaft.

I recently saw a pitcture ( should have saved it ) where they did the most minimal amount of fab work to get the rack in.
