Default harmonic balancer question?

Is there really any reason to spend the extra money for a ati harmonic balancer compared to a romac .Also is there any advantage or disadvantage to running the aluminum outer balancers?thanks.

I hope i can help somewhat. I just switched my 1967GTO over to a 69 timing chain cover & a new ATI balancer. Reason for one is i like the fully degreed balancer for better timing issue,s plus the balancer is a one piece unit without the rubber o-ring desgn that can come apart.Plus when you go to a later yr. set-up the water pump desgn,s are a little better and cool better.

I also bought some 4 bolt splayed caps for my 400 block and already have arp studs ,but not for the extra bolts needed for the 3 splayed extra holes .Does anyone know if I can order just the extra ones needed or if the pro-gram main caps are taller. Its not that big a deal bolt kit is only 105 dollars.

The bolts are a little longer. I can have my guy measure one Monday. ARP sells them "in bulk", 1,2 or 10 at a time. Washers, too.

Call ARP, they can email a spec sheet if needed and will probably have what you need as a stock item. Food for thought: I used studs on the splayed outer's rather than bolts.

Im not sure but I think Romac may be out of business.. I went to a Pro Race balancer , Very nice piece ..
Stay away from the aluminum inner hubs. Steel inner with alum outer is ok or all steel. The Aluminum inner hubs wear....

My 2 cents

These vendors sell ROMAC dampers

Thanks for the info, read the article from ati. Will probably go with the all steel romac. Then started thinking about the forces a procharger would put on it,oh well don,t have to worry about that right now anyway.
