Default 1968 Pontiac Tempest

Hello everyone, I am new and have a question. My husband and I saw a 1968 Tempest for sale and although we both know it's a "mom and pop" car we both liked the looks of it and it appears to be original and in good shape. I, however, am not able to find anything out about a Tempest. Are they such a lost breed that we would be crazy to consider buying it? Not that I care, but would we be laughed at for driving around in a Tempest? Also, does anyone know what it would be worth? Any/all information would be most appreciated. Thank you!

The Tempest was the lowest line in the Pontiac a-body lineup... They are rare to find today and make ultra-cool cruisers. I say go for it!

A pontiac is a pontiac in my opinion. Tempest, LeMans, GTO whatever. You're still rollin' in style. :ax

The Tempest is getting harder to find. I have a 67 Tempest and don't feel horrible about modifying it, where as an original GTO might get you into some trouble with the hard core enthusiasts if you start hacking it up. Not to mention cloning it into a GTO isn't all that hard, either......

The Tempest were still very nice cars with some cool options if ordered. The only down-fall is the interior seats and door panels are probably a different pattern than the LeMans/GTO.The 1966-67 Tempest usually had bench seats and an automatic on the column. In 1969 they also made a Custom_S that had a different style interior pattern than the GTO's and LeMans of 1969.You can still use many parts from the '68 GTO's/LeMans on your Tempest and the 1968-70 GTO hoods will fit the Tempest too.

If you look in my BIO/Profile you can view my Web Page where I have several of my Pontiacs and past and present Parts cars shown on there.

a few people touched on the subject, but may not have made it clear that the GTO is basically a performance version of the Tempest body.

as Haunted Ken said, Tempest/LeMans bodies make excellent hotrods because you aren't ruining any original value....

also, as someone else said, Tempests are very rare nowadays due to the fact that there were fewer of them sold, fewer of them saved, and numerous ones cloned into GTOs....i've had my '67 Tempest convertable for 13 years, and have only seen 2 in person, and 1 or 2 on the net. sure, the '66-'67 GTO/LeMans looks very similar, but i've seen hundreds of them.

Just be prepared to have people tell you that they like your GTO all the time, because the average person doesn't know the difference...i have people tell me all the time what a nice "GTO" my '67 Tempest 4 door is...they don't even realize that there were no 4 door GTOs.
