carbon is stronger, which alows for thinner parts to be made, lighter and cost more. the techniques used to make parts out of them are the same. I have worked with both and have also worked with KEVLAR.

now with carbon the orientation of the fibers will dictate the strength of the part. I have made frame rails for a electric car before and also mad rims out of carbon infact I think I have one at home I will take a pic of it later.

Done correctly, with the proper bonding agents??
Carbon fiber is extremely strong.

Years ago a buddy of mine, once was given a couple of Space Shuttle tiles.
Those were amazing!!!
fabric very similar to carbon fiber.
But the agents used, contained among other things some sort of ceramic.

When you dropped a piece on the floor..
It actually had a "ring" like steel when it hit... but didn't chip.

If memorey serves correctly... they were about an 1/8" thick.. and pretty light
