Although Iíve never used that method of backing off 1/4 turn. I guess we do what works for us.

Just donít understand reasoning behide it.

Sense Iím using ARP studs I decided to call them.

I just called ARP. Guess what they said. Yes back off 1/4 turn and retorque. He said if you use our lube you shouldn't have to retorque. Torque specs on 1/2 studs 110 with their lube

Ask the perpose for backing off He use the analogy of trying to push a car with a flat tire. Said you could also snap the stud/head bolt if you donít back off.

Letís see if their email response is the same.

[MQUOTE=Bruce Meyer;446168]The proper procedure is to do one bolt at a time. Back them off 1/4 or so and then torque to spec in one continuous pull. If you don't back them off the breakaway torque may be more than the reading. Then you are doing nothing.[/quote]

Makes perfect sense if you think about it. Its always supposed to be one continuous pull for final tq. But sometimes takes extra to get a bolt moving.
