Default 68 Firebird gets a makeover

This winter the old girl is getting transformed from a beautiful stocker to a bad ass street machine. She will be getting an IA-II 535, a 200-4R (or 4L80) trans and a Moser 12 bolt w/3.55 gears. It will be a pump gas motor with 10.25:1 comp, ported D port E heads, big lift Comp hyd roller w/114 LS and Scorpion 1.65 rockers. Probably going with EZ EFI. Intake is still undecided, but must fit under stock hood. Long branch cast iron manifolds with somewhat quiet mufflers. Everything has been ordered except the trans and converter. Still have to make those decisions. Parts are slowly startling to roll in, but not in the order I need them . The block is currently at the machine shop. The heads are being ported. This will be a slow build, as I will be doing all the work myself in my 1 car garage. I'll post updates as often as I can. Spring should be a real blast! Here's the car as she sits now.

Crankshaft checked for straightness, main bearing clearance and end play. .009" end play seemed a little big to me, but Butler confirmed it is OK.

I degree'd the cam with only cylinder #1 piston installed without rings. I find it much easier this way. When installed straight up, the intake center line is at 112.75 degrees. Cam card says it should be 114. I guess I'll leave it as is and let chain stretch get it closer...
