Default Englishtown New Jersey closing

Englishtown New Jersey closing

Bangshift.com has learned that Raceway Park will cease racing operations in 2018. This is unhappy news to say the least. At this point our understanding is that there will not be a 2018 drag racing season at Raceway Park and an announcement regarding the trackís future, or lack thereof is forthcoming. In conversations with various parties close to the trackís operation we have learned that the Napp family who owns the facility has effectively leased some or all of the property to a company who plans to use it as some sort of vehicle storage area. We have not spoken directly to track ownership or management at this point but are confident with the information that we have gathered from those we have spoken to. We cannot speak to the other facets of the track (i.e. the motocross course, etc) but we can speak with a level of confidence that drag racing is over at one of the nationís most well known and longest running facilities.

Copart signed a lease for 15 years for 75 million. The grandkids did not give a crap about racing, all about the $$$$.

Can't blame the owners, who wouldn't take that money and give up the drag racing. They are still running motocross, drifting, car shows and swap meets.

Regardless, that track became a nightmare for racers the last few years. They didn't care about drag racing and it showed. As sad as it is to lose a track, it should help Atco, Island and Lebannon Valley.

That bites !
I've seen tracks wither & die before. The management for what ever reasons stops putting money into it.
You notice it in the lack of upkeep of the racing facility from the racing surface, the lousy broken up paving in the pits that puts all kinds of small gravel & sand up on the track.Guard rails broken, lighting broken,PA you can barely hear, grand stands falling apart ,restrooms falling apart etc. etc.
Carlsbad got like that towards the end.

I do not blame them, for 75 million I would have done the same thing.
They are not busting the track up just making a huge storage lot.

Official NHRA statement on E-Town
https://www.nhra.com/news/2018/nhra-...ummernationals

So If E-Town is out and in breach why not take one of the other track operators in the region up on their offer to host the Summer Nationals event this year rather than cancel out.
That event is still a long ways off on the 2018 schedule.
How long does it take to put a deal like that together? .
Would ATCO be up to the task?

UPDATE
Virginia Motorsports Park VMP Has won the Bid to host the cancelled NHRA E-Town event.
The event is re-named " NHRA Virginia Nationals" and will take place on June 8 Thru June 10.
Tickets go on sale in March.
Last NHRA national event at VMP was in 2009.
Hopefully with the new owners and track management the NHRA will return in 2019 and beyond.

Sucks for me that's to far. Englishtown was only 3- 3.5 hrs from me. I guess I attended my last summer national.
