My 64 GTO was 2spd automatic(Turbine 300??), still has 3.23 10 bolt posi in it. Was a 2.73 or 2.56 .. I changed the rearend in Hawaii and had pulled 3.23 out of a 64 GTO hardtop wreck in junkyard. The motor and trans I put in then was 400/TH400 from 69GP. My previous 65 Tempest/389 had original 2.56 with 4spd I had changed out in Beaufort SC for a 3.55. I remember it was real easy to spin the tires with the 3.55 but I missed the 1st gear till 70mph street feel ... that combo would spin the clutch instead of tires off the line but would make the 4.11 guys cry if they tried me rolling

Still regret selling that car in Cherry Point NC .. bet someone still has it.
My 444 rotating assy is done, sending Paul final payment today ... was going to start another thread others might find usefull to "Putting motor together at home strategy- where to draw the line". Everyone is trying to coax me to aluminum heads but I am going to go with my iron 96's, someone put effort into porting them and they look beautifully done to me. I am going to add 7mm ss valves, possibly glyptal intake ports and add my cryod valve train with Nunzi or Hojo cam. Am trying to figure which trans to try .. have the 69TH400 and a rebuilt TH350 ... both would work with the factory console Hurst 1/4 stick I finally found. Was thinking a 200R4 would be a nice modernization and might work great with 3.08 but dont think shifter will work with it. I am going to call Shiftworks and see if they can convert that shifter.Thinking frame connectors and Cal-trac bars for 71 Formula, Jegs has Cal-trac .. looking for frame connectors.
