Default Advice on Turbo 400 Transmission for 461

Jim (Mr. Pbody) recommended a Turbo 400 with a Gear Vendor Overdrive for the 461 engine that he is building for me.

I did a quick search for Turbo TH400's and found this site, however I am lost on all the options to select on the BUILD YOUR ORDER portion. Can someone help me with what's what, or if this is a good trany to order

thanks

What is your intended use?
HP?
Rear gear?
Street/strip use: you probably do not want a full manual or reverse shift pattern valve body.
A shift reprogramming mod is probably all that is needed.
One that will allow you to hold it in 1st and second as long as you want but still give 1-2-3 automatic up-shifts in drive.
A heavy duty 34 element intermediate sprag is a must have.

HP level will dictate whether or not an internal case support is needed.
If it will see high HP/competition (even occasional hard use/abuse)get the internal case support added.

Also run lots of trans cooler.Force draft stacked plate style.

Jim gave me these specs on the engine. Primary use on street, occasional strip. I am unsure of the rear gear ratio.

HP 550 Torque: 500-550
Crankshaft: Eagle
Bore/Stroke: 4.155 bore x 4.125 stroke
XR288HR
0.236 in x 0.242 ex @ 0.50
Compression Ratio: 9.2:1
.110 LSA
0.570 Lift
Cylinder Heads: 4X
Manifold: Edelbrock 5056 Torker 2
Carburetor: 850 Holley
RPM: 24-25

thank you for your response

Sounds like it will be a lot of fun.

550 hp get the internal case support for the trans. Lots of torque.

If you go with a Gear Vendors OD setup you can run a 3.73 to 3:90 rear gear on the street and still have a livable high gear RPM on the highway when in OD mode.
Street tire dia. will also play a part in that.
Gear Vendors can calc it out for you.
They may have an online calculator.
