Mark,

Of course, it depends on what you're using for hardware. What gear do you use for 1/4 mile? Many big Pontiacs "like" 3.90s or 4.10s for 1/4. Typically, that would call for 4.56s or 4.88s. Rick Holladay uses a 4.30 and runs "both". He has a 4-speed, though, and just lets it "eat" in 3rd for the 1/8. He went a personal best of 6.36 @ 107 Friday in NC. This combo hasn't run 1/4 yet. Last engine went 6.45 @ 105 in really good air. The air Friday wasn't "bad", but still Summer.

If you think you have enough torque for the 1/8, and enough "legs" for the 1/4, use the 4.30 so you can go to the "big" races and be competitve.

Jim I am using 3.89 pro gear ford 9in aluminum center section 40 spline gun drilled axles. My best 1/8 mile so far was 5.80 @ 119 n/a but with the nitrous not there yet. Maybe on Saturday.

I'm gonna try a 4.30 over my current 4.10. I have 33.5" tall tires and a 1.80 first fear glide. In the 1/4 now, going through the traps at 7,000. 4.30 should be happy medium for 1/8 and 1/4 for me.

Yes I am thinking my 3.89 with my 29.5 10.5 W tire is perfect for 1/4 or 1/8 mile racing.

I think the 4:33 would be better for the 1/8

there's no one at the tracks the way it is, if they go to 1/8 mile across the board, that will be the end of drag racing. My wife's Saturn has a faster top end than what these cars will do in the 1/8. Why even build one, to race for a few seconds that short distance ? You'll have a lot of worthless iron you paid big bucks for, with no resale value.

better off investing in an R/C car, or your own track and make it 1/4 mile.

or better yet, street race.

Yes 1/8 mile drags are a blast easy on the car. I like 1/4 better but I will race either. I will try with my 3.89 gear.

Sprint, what's your hot rod run in the 1/8th ? LOL

does Warren Johnson run 1/8 mile ?

would he even waste his time ?

1/8 mile drag racing is an IQ test, if you're doing it, you flunked. Next they'll cut it to 1/16 mile, then it will be only a burnout contest, then only a car show...then, nothing.

that slippery slope will ruin drag racing, and I'm not the only one with that opinion.

Sprint, more importantly, WTF happened to your home state of California ? You need a new state to move to and live in, drag race track length is the least of your problems......how many illegal aliens live there now, 100 zillion ?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1/4 mile is the better race, without a doubt. In my opinion, 1/8 mile is tougher to win at with less time for decision making at top end. It also takes alot of the "speed thrill" out of the equation, particulary in a Stocker. Personally, since I do this sport for the enjoyment, I have little use for 1/8 mile racing.

Well I disagree about 1/8th mile 10.5 & 8.5 cars being great racing... In fact the Only thing I want to see run 1/8th mile is a junior dragster. These real racecars of today racing 1/8th mile is like the NBA lowering their basketball hoops to 7 feet from the ground , you have players that are taller than 7 feet. However you maybe correct about 1/8th mile being the future of dragracing but I pray to God that don't happen but if so I will definately be through with dragracing. Right now the Only thing in drag racing that's worth going to watch is an NHRA national event featuring Promod & The NEOPM races when they can get a great amount of cars to come out.

Hey Sprint, why not just race thunderjet 500 cars, and save on gas. You can carry the track in a little box and plug it in anywhere.

Same here, closest 1/4 mile to me is about 2 hrs. I really don't like 1/8 mile at all for my car, it sucks. I wish all tracks were just 1/4 mile tracks.

Submitted on 11-12-2011 What BS! Another part of the pussification of this nation! Look, it's a DANGEROUS sport. What next, hook up the cars to a track like those dragster amusement cars? No one that races is reckless, but when you are trying to control TREMENDOUS forces, sometimes BAD things can happen. If you want to be 100% "safe" compete in car shows. The worst that'll happen will be a fender bump or a nick in your paint.
