I'm way under 4G's (3200 +/-). If your paying someone to do most of the fab work or make your headers or then you won't stay under 4 and definitely won't fall under the 'budget build' title. I'll eclipse the 4 mark for sure on this second go around of upgrades especially if the Fitech falls in budget but I also sold my heads, tri-y headers, shaker455 Holley, all my nitrous and fuel stuff and other misc things to start my build. That likely accounted for about half. Of initial start up.
My biggest expenses were the CSU carb ($850), turbo ($600), and fuel system ($750) but there is a lot more info on doing your own carb then there was 10 yrs ago so a lot can be saved there

What is funny is all the aftermarket Pontiac heads are nothing but port designs that are copied from sbc/bbc/ford designs from 15 years ago.

See my sig for what the car runs currently. I do have another 400 block I am about to build and I want to know what my best option would be.
I will upgrade cam to match the combo, etc.
I have I nitrous car and a turbo car. Nitrous is a cheaper way to go if ur just trying to have some extra Power in reserve for the times u want a head rush or beat the guy that just beat you
But I will bet in short of having the nos all plumbed in u will tire of unbolting the bottle taking it down to get it filled and paying 55 bucks that you will be second thinking your decision of going that route.Turbo is free after the fact in terms of never running out of what's giving u the extra power. I'm selling my NOS car because I never drive it for the same reason I just discribed. Also the sound and manners of the 2 are180 apart because of the compression ratio and cam spec's.

At the end of the day the nitrous guys are still ahead tho in 8th mile grudge. Turbo guys are sneaking some wins tho and catching up quickly. But for easy going 9s like the OP inquires about I believe turbo for durability and low maintenance.

197 HOs buddy.
If I played around with boost it would be the Dan Whittmore ported HOs and a Vortec on a 67 2 bolt block with splayed caps. Have the block.
I would much rather play around with a Vortec than a turbo.
