Default 69 Firebird 400 4speed

Getting ready to start work on this 69 Firebird 400 4speed. Its an M21 car, 1 owner, with 26000 original miles. Has every original part with it, all numbers matching carb to oil pan. I'm having serious Moral issues with it as I have a built 455 and 6 speed for it but I think I need to keep it all together. Not a high option car but has hood tach. It was wrecked in a drag race in 72 and parked for some time. Needs a quarter panel and a few other body panels replaced then I can get to work on the rest of it. Originally Midnight Green with gold interior.

Looks pretty solid.
No saving the original sheet metal?

The side in the pictures needs nothing, The other side the quarter panel, door and Rocker are hit. The guy the original owner took it to started to put a new quarter on and a gallon of filler in the door and fender before skipping town. They have to be replaced. Otherwise the car is solid.

That's why I guy like me stay away from cars like that. Those need to go back to original, I hotrod every car I get. Can't help it, its got to go faster and have nice seats and cupholders!

If you do the body stock and keep the original parts thats cool. Do you have to cut the floor for the 6 speed? that would hurt! LOL

After looking at some auctions from the last few years it doesn't look like this car is worth much more stock than it will be if I mod it. I think I'm going to make it the way I want. No one believes the mileage anyway because the car is in such rough shape from the last 10 years of being out side.

I hope I can manage the Quarter panel and outer rocker replacement. I've got the panels and am going to give it a shot. I have read so many stories of the aftermarket panels fitting so poorly it has me a little scared! Green is not my favorite color so that will have to go and gold interior will change too.

Great ! Make it what you want ! My son did body work and paint for about 10 years. Watched many times as he did quarter panels. The body lines on the 69 Firebird aren't bad at all, but the ones we got for 64 GTO were terrible. I'd say as long as their straight you should have a pretty easy time.

Nice thing about first gens is a Tremic TKO will fit with no tunnel mods.I pulled my Muncie and put one in with virtually no issue.Just had to change the clutch disc,x member and drive shaft. You could keep all the original stuff if you wanted to change it back.Tom
