Default Got SPANKED and feel pretty good about it!

No, this post isn't an exerpt from Fifty Shades of Gray. But I figured a good title is always worth a few clicks. SO ... I'm out in the Red car yesterday just having fun. This car has the original 455, 6X heads, Comp 268, RPM intake, Doug's Headers. H.E.I. The trans gears are M-22Z from Midwest Muncie with a 3.08. There is a guy in town with an absolutely AWESOME Pro-Tour style 69 Camaro. Its mini-tubbed with a 4-link, a modded 6.2 LS, and a 4L80E with 3.73s. It is a monster. He was very complimentary of my older-school build and really wanted to see how it ran. We had virtually no traffic and just hammered it form a roll. Big Red literally incinerated the BFGs all the way through 1st and all the way through 2nd as the 69 just squatted, roared and vanished. At the next light, he said 'pull out in front and hit it for me' I tried to be more careful with the throttle, but she just hits so hard in 1st -3rd. He pulled up with a big smile and a thumbs up and said 'if you get a pair of street slicks on that thing, we'll have a real race.' It was nice to get props from someone who had wayyy more money in their car. Kind of took the sting out gettin' walked pretty good. And I have to say, I generally baby my cars - I hate the thought of breakin' stuff. This was the hardest I have ever driven the Red car and it is a real beast. So Much Power! ... He's right, if I can get her to hook up, she should pull pretty good. Maybe a set of those 17x9 Year One Rallys or Honeycombs with some soft, sticky summer tires.

It's all about the "hook".

Had a similar experience at the track in May .
Heads up race, my pile Firebird vs. one of the newest Mustangs.
I cut the better light ( still sleepy by anyone's standards) ,we both had identical 60' times .At the end it was the Mustang by .003 .

A definite squeeker.Nothing to cry about.
But it showed me what the chassis needs and the improvements this driver needs to make to get consitent. LOL

Just think what would have happened if you raced a Hellcat Challenger with drag radials on it.

There is only 2000 being built, not much chance of that. I will try when a friend of mine gets one. He is # 3 on the list here on Long Island! I'll let you know.

They adding any dealer $ to the sticker on his deal?

First one is going to Charity via BJ Auction.

I have to say its a really smart marketing move that appears to be working.....lots of people talking about Dodge Challenger and they will no doubt sell "a lot" of the other models.

Default Shaker?

Are they putting the Shaker on the hellcat, or is it an option? I saw a newer SRT Challenger recently with the shaker hood and it really made the 'retro' look. I absolutely love the new Camaros, Mustangs, and Challengers, but I think I like the whole look and 'feel' of the Challenger the best.

They are coming out with a Hellcat Charger next. A 4 door sedan with 707hp. They are saying early next year.

The Hellcat Charger has a SAEj1349 certification. There are already spy videos of the prototypes running on the internet. It will become the most powerfull 4 door sedan in the world.

You could build a faster car for a lot less money.

Heads up I would be looking at tail lights the whole trip.
If the driver fell asleep at the wheel and he blew the tires off it would be closer.LOL
If the car did lose he could claim the wrong key in the ignition? LOL

If it was a bracket race all I gotta do is leave on time & run my number.
I dont care if the car next door has 1000 hp.

Is the shaker hood on there for decoration or is it really part of the air intake system?
Are those Dodges accepted by NHRA for Stock and Super Stock competition ?
If they are some of those cars may be going directly to select racers just like they did in the 1960's.
But I would assume anything factory destined for the track would not come with all the luxobarge accesories that would tend to make them heavier.

Probably see most of these "modern collector cars" sitting inside someone's warehouse verses on the track.

Its all about corporate advertising and market share, not about racing and performance.

Drag racing isn't the place marketing option like it was back in the day when anyone with a job could buy majority of what was being run on the track.

How many can afford, or want one if they could, a $80,000 toy car that may run 11's on the street?

Remember the MOPAR Drag Pak car? No VIN for track use only.......

How many of those even being run on the track?

Most are probably sitting in someone's warehouse collection waiting for auction and future collector car status...$$$

When they become available you will see people driving them all over California. The dealers jack the price up at first but that wears off in about 6 months, it happens with all the new cars everyone wants.

If I was in the market for a new American made musclecar, it would not be a Vette, Camaro, or Mustang....I'd buy a new Challenger. They got it right and it looks like a 7/8 scale 1970 Challenger to my eyes. They just did everything right there. If they made a 2 door Charger that would be an awesome car too. I sat in the Charger 4 door and what an awesome car that is.

"M-O-P-A-R....Move-Over- Pontiacs-Are-Racing......."

M-O-P-A-R ----- Mostly Old Parts And Rust

Nice car ,seems wayyyyyy to expensive to me.
They are trying to compete in the lower end luxury sports market
80 grand plus, finance charges ,annual registration and insurance.
Way too steep for my meager seasoned citizen income.
There's cheaper ways.

One of my co-workers owns an SMS Supercharged Hemi Challenger.
That car is making just North of 700 hp.
It is a BEAST.
At first it was a continual pain in the backside because initially SMS could not get the tune right.Ran way too lean at WOT and it burned some pistons and hurt the bearings.
I told him to take it back to Saleen and have them rebuild it using forged rods, pistons and all new bearings and retune it fatter.
He got a new engine out of the deal at virtually no cost to him.
I gotta give Saleen high marks for making good on the deal.

What I heard about a year ago is SMS suspended making their Challengers because Dodge was gonna lock them out of the engine management computers.
There is only a few guys in the country with the savvy to tune those things properly.
