Default Rear Wheel and Tyre sizes

What is the largest size wheel and tyre combo that you can fit in the rear of a 66 lemans without major surgery to the chassis . Not to worried about narrowing the axle. What have people got??

i used to run P265/50-15 rear, and P225/60-15 front on the same wheels. thinking of going back to that since i just switched to Pro Stars in the same size.

here's how it looked then:

here's my '67 Tempest work car with the P265/50-15 rear, and P225/60-15 front on 15" Rally wheels:

i'm pretty sure you could run the 275/60s on the back with Rallys as well.

Cheers INJUNTOM, have already got 275/60s on the back, was wondering more about getting more width possibilities of using 15x10" or bigger rims but wasn't sure if they would fit between the body and chassis.

you could probably run the same tire with a 10" wheel if you had a 6 1/2" backspace

Have been looking at a set of wheels 15x10 but they only have a 5" backspace. I take it that i would have to narrow the axle to get them to fit.

nope...not gonna work.

an 8" wheel with 5.5" backspace is centered in the wheelwell, so you would have to go an inch each direction to keep the tire in the same location.

BUT - i think you will have problems with shock location if you try it. currently, my shock mounting point is about 1/2" away from the wheel. you would need to relocate the lower shock mount most likely.

Cheers,
will have to get down on my hands and knees once i'm able and have a look. If i've got to move the lower shock mount it might be a good time to replace my axle with a slightly stronger one.

sorry Im a little late on ringing in,but I wanted to tell you that I also am running 8in welds with 275/60/15s with 4 1/2in back space. These are same back spacing as the ralleyIIs that injun tom referred to.I also feel that a 10in wheel with 5 1/2in backspace will work fine.
