I think what you're seeing is the weld on the V-Band clamp to cone. Does look like a crack so I can see why you were wondering. No cracks though.
Also need to add, I bought the car I'm going to try to put the 4 cylinder into when the time comes. A co-worker of my son wanted to buy a new Mustang. She had a 2006 Mazda RX8 but no one wanted to give her any trade in value so she offered it up to me for $2500. 2006 RX8 body great with some paint fading from the sun. Interior good, 96,000 miles on the original engine, 6 speed trans. I haven't driven it yet, waiting for insurance and tags. Car weight is about 2800 lbs and should be well under 3000 with the engine and T-56 conversion. I'm going to drive it and have fun with it until the motor is done and ready. I still have to adapt it to the T-56 and adapt a starter to it. Then figure out an EFI system. I've been told that a Cobalt ecu and wiring harness adapts well to engine conversions and easily tuned.
I'll have to start looking into it. Hagerty Classic car will insure it and if you insure a car here in AZ, then use of the Classic Car Insurance allows you to bypass emissions testing. If that's true then a conversion will be a snap. Will know soon.
Now dats sompin' differnt.
