I ran into the same problem putting a 1979 WS 6 box in my '70 bird.
GM switched from double flare fittings on power steering & A/C systems to what is referred to a "BUMP TUBE" fittings that use a Viton O-ring seal instead of traditional inverted double flare type fitting (anything to save a step in production).
There are adapters available on certain sites. I'll dig up the link (if I can find it) and post it.
Instead of resorting to that I found a Dorman/Motormite HELP card rack at Autozone that had a length of steel fuel or AC line that had the right diameter Bump Tube end on it & cut off a short section with the tubing end on it and attached it to the steering box then mated the stub end to the cutoff end of thev1970 pump line with a SWAGE-LOK coupling for that tube dia. Works fine ( Swage-Lok or Yor-Loc compression fittings are much better for higher pressures than standard compression tube fittings & they will not crush or distort the tubing when tightened).Use a good tubing cutter & Just be sure to ream/ de-burr the cut ends of the tubing and blow them clear.The box is more responsive and if yer doping of at the wheel it will get your attention but it is not that radical of a change. Ya just gotta learn the new steering inputs for the car. Less is more.
