Don't use lacquer primer, it's old school and it will rust on you. You can buy epoxy primer for a little over $40.00 a gallon and you won't have problems with rust.

My Dad primered his trunk back in 78  and it hasn't rusted yet, one of these days we'll get it painted , but it's been nice being primered up in the mountians, you don't have to worry about the tree's or bush's scrathcing the paint

It's lacquer primer btw

If you used lacquer primer over paint it won't rust because the paint is a barrier. If you use lacquer primer over bare metal, it will rust. Why would anyone use lacquer primer when epoxy primer does not cost much more?

Lacquer primer has a very high "talc" content.
Making it VERY porous, Think sponge and you get the idea.
Wet sanding lacquer primer, is like misting water onto the surface under the primer.

I'm primarily a Urethane primer only user.
Some people like to use epoxy primers for bare metal.
But there's many manufacturers marketing direct to metal urethanes.
I've been using a lot of Valspar's primer lately.
The Supa fil brand is just that.
It has fantastic fill qualities.
