Yeah Bret. Same thread. He has a stock axle 8.5 with c clips eliminators and some richmond gears. He asked if it would live. Go back and read the first post.
I asked but can't see where he stated he had anything other than a stock posi, no yoke upgrade, welded tubes, etc etc. So this rearend is not set up to handle a trans brake. But he did say if it lives, it lives, if not whatever.
We also all agreed that he could build this rear to handle the power he is making.
Now to my costs again. I paid 150 for the housing, actually complete open rear from a 70 mustang. I then built it to what I have now. So I gutted it and built it, no one is talking about a ford trac loc or anything else. But there is a ton of used Ford parts available if someone is willing to look for them. More than any other rearend out there in fact.
You can't tell me a stock 8.5 housing is stronger than a stock 9". Yes they both can be welded on and braced to increase the strength. That is a given.
I bought the axle and spool package which saves a bit over your pricing listed.
You can buy an S case with install kit, yoke and daytona support new for less than you are listing in a kit as well.
I bought summit gears which I had no issues with in 3 seasons. Though I have changed to a used set of 4.10 gears now. I paid 85 shipped for them...
Are you going to go back and figure the costs of his housing, gears, c clip eliminators? To compare apples to apples?
To me an 8.5 10 bolt built right will equal a 12 bolt anyway. So why not build the 10 bolt as well as he can. As long as what he does have is an 8.5" 10 bolt and not an 8.2.
He will need a new driveshaft. I bought an aluminum 3" with 1350 yokes etc done for 400. Can't break it under 900 HP. Why piss around with a stock one?
