Good, that is why I posted that PY thread over here. So all interested can get a better idea of the height for differant applications. It looks like its going to be limited in many f-body applications.

So on the PY thread, he says it doesn't fit under his hood. Is that a LeMans he has? On this thread we have a 2nd gen T/A that it fits under the hood. What I'm really looking for is if it will fit under the hood of my '69 Firebird

Does anyone know how the heights compare between the 69 Firebird and 2nd gens - meaning if it fits on a 2nd gen, should it fit on a first?

It's a '67 Lemans with a stock hood.

Not really sure why this intake is marketed as a 'low profile' intake BY THE PEOPLE THAT DESIGNED IT......and why those folks are strangely silent when politely asked for some dimensions......

It's painfully obvious that it flat doesn't fit under most stock hoods and that it's within about 3/8" of a victor.......that doesn't make it a 'low profile' intake in my book......your book may vary.....

BTW, that makes it taller than an RPM....not shorter......

Not saying it is a bad intake....it's just not what it is marketed to be WRT height

JoePapa I think it fits under the shaker, with the WFO air cleaner or if you are one of the few that has the "Dude Scoop" and the WFO it should fit nicely. If I had more hp I would test it with the " Dude Scoop" and the WFO.

Wow, the lack of information on this new product is amazing.

Well, the NorthWind was a little shorter, over all, but, the flat carb pad tips the front of the carb up some ...... so when the small wedge plate was installed, it was a little taller than the RPM, but not much, really, not much at all. But, you must have the custom style air cleaner base that's on that 78' T/A, or i don't think it's gonna fit at all. It is tight, but, it's in there. I hope my pics helped ...... i can't speak for the other Pontiacs hood height, i really have no idea. I'm a 2nd Gen F-Body guy, sorry.

EC - I know, what was I thinking?

Thank you guys for helping to clarrify. Sounds like it's a big mystery right now. If it can fit on a 2nd gen I'd think it would fit my car but I'm not in a rush so we'll see what comes up between now and when I actually need it.

I don't know why it's any of your concerns. there isn't enough money in Texas for you to buy one. I saw Ty Ingles car at the PRI and the hood was closed completly so I don't know what you were talking about.

I'm with Jamer. Clearly folks are asking for measurements and have questions. Instead of stepping up and and offering solutions we see a negative response and zero assistance.

Well at least we know before we spend our money!

It would seem the same level of customer service is offered on the Northwind as was offered on the 'butter block'

"I don't know why it's any of your concerns."

Well Ken the actual height of the intake became of interest to me when I read statements or questions within this very thread and no one knew. And I actually had previous experiance in a similar situation with hood clearance issues. So out of curiousity I tried to determine how tall the North Wind actually is since it was apparant no information was available within the thread. And in the Pontiac Enthusiast magazine article about the intake which indicated nothing other than a lame picture with a tape measure held up to it, plus the lame statement that "it offers 1 1/4-inches more hood clerance".... more clearance to compared to what ??? Sorry, apparantly the article can leave the reader with thoughts it is much shorter than what it actualy is. And the picture with it's comparision next to presuambly a Victor intake is very misleading like an optical illusion !

"there isn't enough money in Texas for you to buy one"

Thanks but right now I have no need for it. Although the concept is a good and I'm sure the intake will work quite well in the appropriate situation I really don't need a lower profile intake since I cut the carb flange down on my Victor intake to get it under the hood. By doing so it lost only about 8 hp on the dyno, insignificant on a 650 hp street motor. Oh, and David Butler reported only a 10-15 hp loss by doing the same thing to a Victor in conjunction with the 535 motor used in the Bandit Trans Am project.

And hopefully you have figured it out that these statements are not from me....

"Not really sure why this intake is marketed as a 'low profile' intake BY THE PEOPLE THAT DESIGNED IT......and why those folks are strangely silent when politely asked for some dimensions..."

"I know what you mean about height measurements and proprietary knowledge.......can't seem to get any straight answers form TIP or KRE on this......I've asked."

Someone just needs to do a mock up on an engine with all manifolds and give measurements from a baseline to the carb flange. Then put it to bed.

There is a fellow over on PY that is doing exactly that with various intakes. Unlike my countertop excerise he is actually doing it on a engine block. It appears he is trying to be very accurate and when available the info will help others.

Communication with customers and marketing often overlap since the same strategies for communicating effectively with customers also result in good marketing. Find material to help you use information about your customers to communicate effectively.

Good info for sure!

So what did it replace and how was the performance before and after? My motor really liked the single plane intake which is why I've been watching these threads. I have a performer RPM now but performance was much better at the track with a Victor.
