I have your home number, don't I?

Speaking of rugs: when I was at his shop, he had two dogs sitting around, breathing heavily.

Post Anybody raced Pontiacs longer than Wangers?

I know of all these guys, Wangers, Beswick, Nunzi, Yunick, Hand, Spidel.......never heard of Stan Antloser? Anyone besides 'ACE' know of him?
Also, I know there is an older guy by the name of Bill Foder from somewhere up around Detroit. I know he has been building/racing Pontiacs for a long time. Anyone else know Mr. Foder? I don't know if he still races, but, I do know he is still building Pontiacs.

What years did Freddy race?
"Goats" didn't exist when Wangers, Beswick, et.al. began racing Pontiacs.

I met Stan Antlocer at a Pontiac car show in Ventura, CA several years ago. I don't know a lot about his racing career, but I do know that he raced a fast '63 Tempest.

His name is Mick McCarty. he worked for Pontiac for 42 years. Metal finished the alu. panels in the early 60's. Thanks for reading, Mike

Default Freddie Borcherdt

The first I knew of Fred getting into drag racing was in about 1965. The Shallcross brothers were running a Willys couple gasser that had a B&M hydro in it. They had problems with the transmission and Fred agreed to take a crack at getting it to perform better. That was the start of Fred doing his own "made for racing" hydros. He did this for various cars, including Tokyo Rose, 56 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery. He built a 48 International Gasser, with Pontiac power and hyramatic that ran D/GS I think. Next he built a 57 Pontiac with fuel injection that held the I/SA record for a while. He worked with John Thropp on John's 57 Pontiac that went to the world finals in 67 or 68, don't remember the exact year. Rocky's Goat followed all of this. He also collaberated with George Cureton on George's 58 injected Pontiac I think.

I watched Spidel run Fred Hurst [Hurst in a silver 58 chiefton] Spidel in a 59 cat
at the last race at Stout Field in 1959. Both 3speed cars Spidel won by a fender
running 14.00 at about 100mph. Most know Hurst running A Gas Supercharged.
Marroon 40 willys. I raced Fred at the 61 Nationals barely beat him 1st round of
B Stock. He had a Red 59 Cat that year.

Maybe not "racing" per se, but Jim did drive a race car down the track at Norwalk Sunday. At age 83 he still "drives like he stole it"!

Post Oldest Pontiac Drag Racer

RE: Fred Borcherdt
49KB5 posted information was almost all correct.
You really have a great memory. I know Fred Borcherdt and raced with him for many of the glory years.
Fred raced an International truck powered by a Pontiac in 1956. He raced it in " D/Highway" not gas class.
Fred built his own engines and was a automatic transmission guru in addition to driving the cars.
If I remember correctly highway classes were almost like gas classes but you were limited to one four barrel carburetor.
All the other information is right on.
If Fred drag raced Pontiacs in 1956 he well may be the oldest Pontiac racer.

Roy McKinney, of Richmond Indiana. His son Mike won alot of Stock, Super Stock races with their 68/69 firebirds. I bought their 77 Astre in 84, real nice people.

It would be nice to know how they are doing?
