The newer sheet metal nipples always crush when you try to remove them. The older steel types are more durable.
I have removed a few of those without destroying them by twisting with Vise Grips after heating with a torch.
1's I heated up had some sort of valve assembley and rubber in them that melted so I run them empty. Figure it's the same as tapping the head and running a fitting. Little bit of wax after they're heated helps lubricate and makes removal easier.
